The SWEetLife INTERVIEW

Paulette Gregg, Assistant Director for CVRI
"Preparing for Change"

SWEet SUCCESSES

Employee Education and Development Leave
In 2001, non-represented, career employees were granted up to 40 hours of release time to pursue position- and career-related development and training. Read the full policy here.

New Employee Orientation
The New Employee Orientation program was piloted by the Supportive Work Environment in 2000. Human Resources now holds monthly new employee orientations (see current schedule here) and an annual new employee fair. Go here to enroll yourself or your new employee in an orientation.

Principles of Community
Several principles of community are established to guide individual and group actions on campus. Adherence to these principles is essential to ensure the integrity of the University and to achieve campus goals. See full Principles of Community (pdf).

Staff Appreciation- Business Cards
Managers and supervisors are encouraged to join in on this best practice by ensuring their staffs that they are valued and are a part of the UCSF community.

Business cards may be ordered through the Reprographics Department at their website: reprographics.ucsf.edu/stationery_set.html or by calling (415) 476-5900.

SWEet Facilitators
Use a trained volunteer facilitator to obtain desired outcomes at your next committee meeting, staff meeting, or departmental meeting. Go here for more information.

SWEet Lectures
The SWE Mentoring Subcommittee hosts lectures and workshops for all administrative and service positions through AA3/equivalent. Visit this page to see the 2005 calendar. Lectures (and resources) from past years on Managing Your Career at UCSF and Communicating: How to Do It Better can be found here.

SWEet Meetings
Use these templates and guidelines for conducting successful meetings.

Telecommuting and Flextime
In 2000, the Supportive Work Environment created flextime guidelines designed to allow employees flexibility in scheduling their work hours within the policy requirements set forth by each department/unit. Guidelines were also designed for telecommuting. Follow this link for the telecommuting guidelines as well as numerous resources on models, considerations, safety, and equipment.
