It’s the Law…
California legislation (Assembly Bill 1825) requires all UCSF managers and supervisors, including academic employees, who supervise others, but who do not have supervisory titles, to attend sexual harassment prevention training.
The definition of a supervisor under this law is an individual having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline other employees, or the responsibility to direct them, or to adjust their grievances, or effectively recommend that action. MANAGEMENT TRAININGS
Sexual harassment is not wrong because it is illegal; it is illegal because it is wrong. It is a form of discrimination by one person upon another. It has negative impacts on the parties involved, as well as on workplace morale and productivity. It is also costly to the University.
But many managers and employees still do not understand what sexual harassment is, nor do they always recognize it in its more subtle form - or know what to about it when they do see it. In this briefing, you will learn to:
- Recognize and evaluate situations of sexual harassment in academic and hospital settings
- Discuss ways to improve your work environment: (Respect vs. Harassment)
- Discuss how to handle sexual harassment complaints
- Discuss UCSF's sexual harassment policy and complaint procedures
Faculty and Management Say:
